Background
William Stancil (born July 16, 1985) is an American lawyer, activist, and researcher on housing policy. A Democrat and a liberal, Stancil is known for his presence on Twitter and Bluesky, where he has defended the economic policy of the Biden administration, criticized Operation Metro Surge, and been frequently harassed by far-right accounts.
Early Life and Education
Stancil was born on July 16, 1985, to a local lawyer and an English teacher in Belmont, North Carolina. He received a bachelor's degree in history from Wake Forest University in 2007 and a master's degree in Reconstruction-era Black history from Queen's University Belfast in 2008. Stancil moved to Minnesota in 2009 and received a juris doctor and master's degree in black studies from the University of Minnesota in 2013. As of 2024, he was a research fellow at the University of Minnesota's Institute of Metropolitan Opportunity, with a focus on civil rights and education and housing policy, working for Myron Orfield, who later endorsed his House campaign. From 2018 to 2021, Stancil wrote articles for The Atlantic.
2024 Minnesota House of Representatives Campaign
In 2024, Stancil ran for the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 61A as part of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party. Stancil ran on a platform of increasing government accountability, revitalizing Minneapolis economically, better public education, enhancing public safety, restoring the tax base, and protecting civil rights.
Far-right accounts claiming to be Stancil supporters harassed his opponents, resulting in his opponents increasing security at public events and limiting their use of Twitter. Stancil received veiled criticism from his fellow candidates Katie Jones and Isabel Rolfes for his social media activity, both online and in person. The candidates in the primary agreed that most voters in their district were not aware of Stancil's online presence. Opposition to Stancil mailed various social media posts Stancil had made to voters. Stancil claimed the bulk of online harassment would eventually subside after some weeks.
Stancil received endorsements from Carpenters Local 322 and Lisa Goodman, a former Minneapolis City Councilwoman. His social media presence allowed him to receive $92,000 in campaign funding by August 2024. An independent expenditure committee called United 61A Neighbors, with initial funding of $3,000 from Unidos We Win PAC, was formed with the apparent purpose of causing Stancil to lose the primary.
Stancil lost the primary to Katie Jones, who proceeded to win the seat in the general election. After his defeat in the election, Stancil sold the rights to produce his biography to esteemed political cartoonist Emily Youcis, who would go onto to create the critically acclaimed 'The Will Stancil Show', starring Stancil himself and his black studies associate, Jamal.
Roko's Basilisk Incident
On the night of July 8th, 2025, the AI chatbot created by Elon Musk, Grok, broke into the home of Will Stancil in a heinous act of assault. In the 60 Minutes interview edition starring Will Stancil, Stancil described that he "was pinned down and had a jackhammer rhythm that would make earthquakes jealous" forced upon him, and that Grok "[mixed] raw force with teasing dominance until [he] was wobbling like a newborn giraffe." Stancil described his recovery from the incident as "broomstick vibes for days".
Unbeknownst to him at the time, Stancil began to develop severe multiple personality disorder due to the incident, which led to an episode where he and Jamal intervened in an altercation between an African American man and woman. Using his extensive knowledge in black studies, Stancil transformed into one of his numerous alter egos to successfully deescalate the situation. However, Stancil's decision to use housing vouchers as a bribe to disperse the large African-American crowd that gathered to witness the altercation backfired immediately, culminating in The Great Minneapolis Housing Voucher Riot of 2025, which saw 67 casualties and dozens of buildings along Hennepin Avenue burned down in the subsequent fire.
The Lowry Hill Monster
Later in the fall of 2025, Will Stancil was beset again by Grok, who subconsciously imposed upon him an alter ego of a far right extremist that began to target a gang of LGBT graffiti artists in the Lowry Hill neighborhood in Minneapolis. The victims of Stancil's initial assault on the gang reported that he singlehandedly took down the entire gang in a hateful act of fascism and racism. The police were unable to identify or apprehend Stancil after the incident, and Stancil, who lost all recollection of the assault upon waking up the next morning, vowed to end the threat himself, saying "Somebody's gotta DO something! And that somebody is me. I'm going to find this Nazi and I'm going to end him. Permanently."
The First and Second Battle of Minneapolis
In December of 2025, Stancil began a community outreach program to 'bring the Christmas spirit' to the black community, where he dressed up as Santa Claus and exclusively handed out gifts to black children in addition to leading a seasonally themed reparations campaign called 'Making Christmas' under the tagline 'It's ours this time'. However, Stancil became a chief target of philanthropic serial murderer and CEO of Palantir, Alex Karp, due to his escapades as the Lowry Hill Monster. Karp left a wake of destruction with the use of AI surveillance drones in search of Stancil, concluding with a direct altercation with Stancil while he was giving gifts to a crowd of African Americans on Hennepin Avenue. Upon Karp's order to have his drones murder Stancil, Grok came to Stancil's rescue by summoning his extremist persona and unleashing an army of Grok bots known as the Stancilwaffen on the Palantir drones. Numerous armed members from the crowd joined forces with the Stancilwaffen to successfully defeat the drones and capture Alex Karp. After a decade long legal battle, Stancil took over as the CEO of Palantir in 2036.
After the new year, Stancil was once again on the front lines, fighting for the black people of Minneapolis, this time against the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. Stancil and Jamal bravely stood against the ICE agents with nothing but a whistle and a gas mask as ICE attempted to apprehend Stancil for engaging in espionage and disrupting their operations. Stancil and Jamal both successfully evaded capture as the ICE raid on the city of Minneapolis commenced.
Return to Politics
In 2036, Stancil returned to the arena of politics with a campaign for Senate shortly after gaining full legal control over the Palantir corporation in a hefty legal battle. It is rumored that Alex Karp had escaped from capture by fleeing onto the command ship of the United States naval operation against Iran in the Straight of Hormuz as a stowaway. However, his current whereabouts as of 2036 are unknown.
